Sisterhood Of The World Bloggers Award

wpid-wp-1408313048339

The Rules:
– Thank the blogger who nominated you, linking back to their site.
– Put the award logo on your blog.
– Answer the ten questions they have set you.
– Make up ten new questions for your nominees to answer.
– Nominate ten people

So, thank you, Clare from Clare’s Beauty Blog for the award!

My questions from Clare:

1. What’s your favourite cheap drugstore brand?

In Finland, nothing is cheap, except maybe Rimmel and Lumene Natural Code but I’m not a huge fan of either so, I would have to lean towards not-that-cheap Isadora these days, with Lumene being a close second.

2. What make up products just didn’t live up to your expectations.

Most liquid foundations, usually, a handful of mascaras, for example, Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Eyes just did not cut it for me for some reason. Regular Hypnôse was great though.

3. Cream Blusher or Powder Blusher? And why?

I have been using powder blushers fairly exclusively because I’ve used mineral makeup for so long. Lately I have however been wanting a cream blusher, especially when I use a BB cream or such as a base. So I’ve used powders because of my powdery base, but I like the idea of cream blushers more.

4. Favourite perfume your using at the moment?

I have been hating perfumes for a few months and I’ve just been using my body sprays from The Body Shop. I have the pink grapefruit one and the shea butter one and I’m considering buying the Honeymania one next… maaaybe. I might also buy the shea butter as a perfume, because the body sprays don’t provide a very long lasting scent but they are kind of difficult to carry around.

5. If you had to use only one hair care products for the rest of your life, which one would you choose? (not including Shampoo and Conditioner)

A serum or a light-weight oil, definitely. I barely use anything else.

6. What’s your go to primer?

I don’t really have one as I rarely use primers. I have been using a Lumene primer which gives a matte effect, but I could imagine using any other just as well.

7. What’s your favourite drugstore and why?

In Finland, I suppose it would be Sokos, but I’m not even sure it counts. It’s a giant department store with a cosmetics department in it. World wide, I’m sorry, but I love Wal-Mart in all of it’s questionable glory.

8. Best make up tip?

Tightlining. Really. Makes a huge difference!

9. What make up product could you not live without?

I could probably live without makeup, but it’s a tough choice between a BB cream (or a good foundation) base and a versatile red lipstick (which can be multipurpose). If I had to choose, I would go for the BB cream, just because my skin is not perfect on its own.

10. Are you a fan of the tangle teezer?

I’ve had mine for perhaps a year, though I admit, I’m very lazy at brushing my hair, especially now that it’s so short. I don’t need my tangle teezer like I did when I had long hair, but it’s still kind of a nice thing to have around!

And then, my ten questions for my nominees…

1. Where are you blogging from? (Country and if you want, city)
2. Where do you see your blog in 5 years time?
3. What has been your biggest “AHA! -moment” when it comes to makeup?
4. What is your current favorite makeup product?
5. What makeup look would you like to try, but can’t see it fitting in with your daily life?
6. How long does it take to do your normal everyday makeup?
7. How expensive is expensive when it comes to a makeup product or beauty product?
8. What’s your monthly beauty budget?
9. What’s your favorite thing about blogging?
10. What is the most difficult thing about blogging?

And my nominees are…

Budget Beauty
Annie’s Beauty
Look Beyond Beauty
all the small stuff and things
Little Bit Soph
The Beauty Sanctuary
Forever Maddy B
Beauty & The Tomboy
Say Hello To Gorgeous
Pretty Little Grub

Summer Lovin’ Tag

I recently got tagged for the Summer Lovin’ Tag by M&M’s Meeting Point and thought perhaps I should do it before the summer is over (which in Finland can be any day now).

1. Summer lipstick you’re loving?

I haven’t been particularly faithful to any specific lipstick this summer, so it’s kind of hard to just choose one. Can I just choose all of these (below)? If I had to pick just one though, I would probably go for that seriously worn-out looking tube (3rd from left), which is Isadora Twist-Up Gloss Stick in Coral Cocktail. Maybe it’s a lip gloss then? Damn it.

summerlips

2. Summer nail polish you’re loving?

Nail polishes

At least all of these. Uhm but, again, if I have to pick… I don’t think I could choose between that turquoise Mavala’s Pacific Blue and the vibrant yellow Sorrento.

3. Bikini you’re loving this summer?

I don’t own a bikini. I never have and I probably never will. I don’t even own a swimsuit. I haven’t even been to a beach in like… ugh… 13-14 years? Wow. I should probably fix that.

4. Favorite summer frappucino from Starbucks?

Finland has 1 Starbucks and that’s at the airport in Helsinki, so I’m afraid I’ll have to skip this. A really nice and refreshing cool summer drink however has been the mix of ice, orange juice and icy strawberries – yum!

5. Favorite fake tan?

I don’t use fake tans. I´m so pale to begin with that to use one would probably end very poorly…

6. Favorite summer song?

This summer there have been several songs I’ve been loving, but especially:

Mr. Probz – Waves (Robin Schulz Radio Edit)

7. Favorite summer accessory?

Accessories and summer don’t really go that well together for me, because I feel like everything extra just makes me extra hot. I would say my prescription Armani sunglasses though, because I would have a really hard time getting around without those, since my eyes are quite sensitive. (horrible picture below taken in the spring)

sunnies

8. Favorite summer fragrance/perfume?

This summer it’s been a toss between two The Body Shop Body Mists, the pink grapefruit and the shea butter. If I had to choose one, it would be the shea.

The Body Shop Shea Body Butter & Body Mist

9. Summer book you’re loving?

I’ve been into light, brainless reading this summer and so, I’ve been reading Sophie Kinsella’s Shopaholic -series.

10. What are you most excited to do this summer?

Summer is nearing its end as it is and all I really have planned is work. Which is what I’ve done pretty much all of the summer anyway. One of the fun things was visiting that retirement home for animals though! That was a great trip – with lots of cute animals to see and pet. I was also pretty excited about the move (as well as terrified!) and now it’s done and I’ve been settling in surprisingly well! (Below a couple of pictures of some of the animals at the retirement home.)

I would like to tag all of my readers who feel like doing this tag! If you do this, link your post in the comments – I’d love to check them out!

2 x The Liebster Award!

I can’t believe I’ve been nominated again! And twice! Oh my. I need to clearly find some more time in my life, not just for blogging but also for reading blogs, because finding 22 blogs with under 200 readers proved to be a completely impossible task! Apparently most of the blogs I try to follow have way more readers than that. I have a bit over a hundred now, which, by the way, is amazing! I’ve only blogged for like 4 months so it’s a bit overwhelming to see this kind of development, especially when I feel like I’ve been less than active with my blog as of late.

liebster

This time around, I was nominated by both Clare’s Beauty Blog and M&M’s Meeting Point – both of which were new blogs to me but totally worth looking into!

Here are the rules..

– You have to link back to the person that nominated you.
– You must answer all 11 questions given to you by the person who nominated you.
– After completing these questions you must nominate 11 bloggers with under 200 followers and give them 11 questions of your choice.
– You must not nominate the person who nominated you.
– You must let your nominees know that they have been nominated and provide a link for them to your post so that they can learn about it.

The questions from Clare’s Beauty Blog were as follows:

1. What’s your favorite film you’ve watched recently?

Actually, the movies I last saw were the Indiana Jones movies which I had honestly never fully seen before! Though at times they were cheesy and quite predictable, I still quite enjoyed them as an experience. Not my favorite films (that would still be the Lord of the Rings extended editions), but pretty good none the less!

2. What’s your guilty pleasure?

I guess I would still have to go with good ol’ chocolate, though some might argue that saying Star Trek would be more appropriate! Hah.

3. If you had to live without makeup or hair products which one would you choose?

At first I thought, wow, this is an easy one – hair products of course! But then I realized that shampoo & conditioner are hair products and even with all the “no-poo methods” around these days, I still don’t quite think I could sit around spraying my hair with baking soda & vinegar (or something), so I’m going to be brave and say makeup.

4. Being inside when it’s raining or being outside when it’s sunny?

Though I’m sensitive to sun, I’d still have to say that I would choose being outside when it’s sunny – I’d just relax in the shade.

5. Who is your icon?

I don’t think I really have one, I’ve never really idolized anyone much. Could I say my dad? He was my hero and the most amazing man I’ve ever known.

6. Who is your favorite blogger?

This is a really tough one. After much thought, I would almost have to say Essie Button, but it’s mostly because I enjoy her vlogs so much as I feel we are very much alike in many ways.

7. What made you start your blog?

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve had the urge to write. I even wrote a book when I was in my early teens (by hand and into a journal), though I have no idea what happened to it. I’ve always been writing a lot, stories, poems and such and when blogging kind of first really started to take off, I jumped on board. It wasn’t until earlier this year that I really started to put more of an effort into it though. For me, despite the fact that this blog is 98% beauty blog (I think), blogging is still a way for me to have an outlet and a way to get some typing out! I also hope that perhaps people will find some of what I write to be entertaining, amusing or useful in some way.

8. Favorite TV show?

Uhm. Star Trek? Right now, I’m watching The Next Generation again. Also, I’m on the WHY DID THEY CANCEL FIREFLY?! – group of people. That was an amazing show. In the non-sci-fi realm of TV I would have to pick Elementary from the newer shows and also I have hooked onto Once Upon A Time, which I just started watching.

9. What’s your favorite eye shadow palette?

I suppose that out of the ones I own, I would still have to go with MUA Makeup Academy’s Pretty Edgy palette. It’s just beautiful.

10. Straight or curly hair?

On me? Curly. I look better with a bit more volume in my hair, so I try to opt for waves.

11. Facebook or Twitter?

I guess I’m a bit old school and I have to say Facebook because I have never really gotten into Twitter. Facebook is my way of keeping in touch with friends & extended family around the world.

And the questions from M&M’s Meeting Point:

1. How did you become a makeup lover?

I honestly have no idea. My mother was always well groomed, but she was never that into makeup or hoarding it like I have been. My sisters don’t even really use any. I would suspect, that I might’ve gotten into it all due to the fact that my teenage best friend’s mom was a cosmetologist who had an ample supply of makeup in her shop and we would often go and sample things there and I also often got some freebies through her.

2. What was your first makeup brand?

Damn, that must have been… a good 16 years ago, give or take? Honestly, the first brands that I got into contact with were very high end brands. I mostly remember using Dior and Joe Blasco, YSL… probably Lancome too. Kind of funny, since I was just a teenager. It was the stuff my mom was using and what my best friend’s mom was selling. I vividly remember a Dior eye shadow and lipstick I got one year for either my birthday or Christmas and I loved them so much. The eyeshadow was a beautiful, light shimmery brown and the lipstick the perfect shimmery shade of beige, which somehow worked for me at the time. So, I guess I’d say Dior.

3. Smokey eyes or bold lips?

Bold lips, hands down. That’s what my husband yelled out too, when I was thinking out loud – hah! I think that if I didn’t have eyeglasses the answer might have been different, but on most days I focus more on my lips than eyes – which has lately really shifted my makeup focus!

4. What is your current favorite foundation?

Lily Lolo’s Mineral Foundation is still unbeatable as far as I’m concerned. I try this and that now and then, but honestly, no other is quite pale enough – nor as long lasting!

5. How do you prefer spending summer vacations: on a beach or travelling around?

My vacations these days are chopped up in to small chunks throughout the year, so honestly, when I’m on vacation, I just chill if at all possible. I do enjoy travelling around more than just sitting on a beach though, because of both my sun sensitivity and lack of body to appear in a bathing suit in public!

6. Your 3 staple beauty producs?

This is difficult, because I do love experimenting and changing my routines up. I guess I could say the Lily Lolo foundation is one, because that has been in my makeup bag for at least 1,5 years now. Another product I keep around is Avène Thermal Spring Water spray which I use to set my makeup when I use the minerals. I sometimes spray it on just for a quick refreshment too – something I learned from my mother. Third product? Hmm… I can’t really say. Unless I can say The Body Shop Body Mists? They’ve replaced perfumes for me.

7. Your favorite makeup brush?

I’m not that big of a brush connoisseur (heh), but I suppose my favorite would be mua MUA powder blush, which is soft and lovely to use!

8. Your favorite artist/band?

I was thinking about this last night and realized that there hasn’t been a band since Oasis around 1995-1997 who I could’ve considered such a favorite that I would have liked even 90% of the songs. I enjoy a song from many artists/bands but rarely all that they have done, or even most. Lately I’ve been enjoying many songs by Noonie Bao – especially the more up beat ones, especially her collaborations. I listen to so many different genres of music even that it’s very hard to narrow it all down!

9. Fake tan or real tan?

As for people actually seeking to get one, I would recommend a fake one – it may well be healthier. I guess I don’t really tan either way, so I choose the very little real tan I may get from popping out with the dog now and then.

10. What’s your favorite summer scent?

Right now it seems to be The Body Shop’s Shea Body Mist, with the Pink Grapefruit being a close second…

11. What was the last book you’ve read?

I’m currently reading Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert, but the last one I finished was a random buy: Shopaholic Abroad (also known as Shopaholic Takes Manhattan) by Sophie Kinsella (Madeleine Wickham). It was surprisingly entertaining, though I’m a bit ashamed of admitting that!

And finally… I tried to search for some blogs with under 200 readers that I hadn’t nominated before and which were in English but that proved to be a nearly impossible task. Here are a few I managed to round up:

Parotisse

Yellow Elephant Beauty (Lisa Sherin)

Beauty With Lily

BeautyFull Sparx

If you have a blog that’s even somewhat beauty related, please nominate yourself. I would love to check out your blog!

My questions for the nominees:

1. What is your most essential summer beauty product?
2. If you would have to choose only one, would you choose bronzer or blush?
3. What was the first item of makeup you ever bought with your own money?
4. How old were you when you first took an interest in beauty & makeup?
5. How would you describe your beauty style?
6. How would you describe your clothes?
7. What is the one item of clothing you would never wear?
8. Have you ever regretted wearing something? If so, what was it?
9. Which trend would you like to see return? (fashion or beauty – or both)
10. Is there a celebrity whose sense of style you admire? If so, who is it?
11. If you could select 5 new items for your wardrobe and money wouldn’t be an issue, what would you choose?

Done! Finished! Ah!

I’m sorry for not finding more people to nominate, it just seems that everyone either has more than 200 readers or has already done this before several times!

Very Inspiring Blogger Award

I’ve been awarded! Yay! Literally, this was what first played through my mind:

After I settled down a bit, I began to worry where do I get those 15 bloggers to nominate! But more on that later…

Anyway, I was nominated (quite a while ago now) by the wonderful author of ninarossbeauty. I suggest checking out her blog because it’s, like she puts it, “beauty with an edge” – the best kind of beauty.

very-inspiring-blogger-award

The Rules of the award
1) Thank and link the amazing person who nominated you.
2) List the rules and display the award.
3) Share seven facts about yourself.
4) Nominate 15 other amazing blogs and comment on their posts to let them know that they have been nominated.
5) *Optional* Proudly display the award logo on your blog and follow the blogger who nominated you.

What 7 facts about myself might you not yet know..? (You can check out my 20 facts of myself here.)

1) I have a secret love for disco-dancing and I’m surprisingly good at it, even if I say so myself. (I also like to dance to old Michael Jackson songs (Billie Jean is my favorite) and pretend I’m cool.)
2) I have a love-hate relationship with summer. I love the fact that I don’t have to deal with rain, snow, mud, sleet etc on a daily basis, but I hate that with sun, comes the heat. I love all of the delicious berries that are so readily available (blueberries, strawberries, raspberries). I hate that I tend to get an allergic reaction from the sun quite easily. I enjoy the green nature, but I could do with less bugs.
3) In case you wonder why my nails always seem to be so short, it’s because once my nails get to a certain point, they start to curl like mad. The nails on my thumbs, index fingers and middle fingers especially – the other two are always kind of like that.
4) I was born with long, black hair. It was long enough to tie a ribbon into it. By the time I was one, it was replaced by golden blonde hair which I had well into my teens. Then I started dyeing my hair. These days my natural color is darker, cooler, but still has copper-wire colored strands in it.
5) My first relationship lasted for 5 years and it started when I was 14. We are still good friends and value each other greatly. We went through a lot together and grew up together, until eventually we just grew apart – it was heart-breaking.
6) I’ve never been drunk in my life nor have I ever smoked a cigarette. I don’t normally consume alcohol at all.
7) I’m a woman of extremes. I have to either have it all or nothing at all. That applies to pretty much everything.

Because I very recently nominated people for the Liebster Award, I thought… why don’t I just nominate all of you (muahhahah) who read my blog and blog yourself! If you take the bait, please let me know so I can come check out your facts! Perhaps I’ll find some new blogs in the process.

31 Day Blog Challenge – Days 26, 27 & 28

Day 26 – An old photo of me

minime

Does not get much older than this. I’m 1 years old in the picture with my blonde hair tied up on a bow! This photo is included in this little “piece of art” my sister made for me for last Christmas including the dress I wore in the picture and the shoes! I can’t believe I was once so small.

Day 27 – My favorite recipe

To be honest, it’s been a while since I reaaally cooked (husband tends to do it these days) and I don’t generally follow any recipes! I like winging everything in life, including my cooking – hah! I would have to say that the best recipes are the simplest ones, so I would choose one of my favorite dishes – salmon & potatoes.

Go and buy a suitable amount of salmon medallions (one per eater), rinse them lightly at home and pat dry with some paper towel. Pour oil of your choice on a pan and throw the salmons on the pan. Sprinkle fine sea salt and dried dill on top of the fish and flip the fish over after the underside has got some color on it. Spice up the other side and cook for a while again. Make sure the salmon has a nice, slightly crispy outside – with soft, delicious inside. Serve with simple boiled potatoes (preferably boiled in water with fresh dill in it) and fish sauce which can be made with sour cream / crème fraîche or even unflavored yogurt. I like to use a sour cream sauce that I spice with some sea salt, black pepper, dried dill, garlic and mustard that my mom makes (has a great kick!). Super easy recipe and super yummy! Serve with salad!

Day 28 – What am I looking forward to?

Honestly, we’re living in exciting times right now. I’m really looking forward to hear if Mike got accepted to the school he applied for because it will determine a great deal of our future for the next few years to come. It’s kind of nerve wrecking to just wait, but thankfully the years have made us veeeery good at waiting! We really hope he triumphs!

In other news, we are sort of looking forward to settling down in a new apartment. Yep, you read that right. We haven’t even lived in this one for a full year and we were fully planning on living in this one as long as we live in our current city, BUT. We learned that there’s going to be a huge piping and electrical overhaul and repairing coming up in the building which will last the entire next year – rendering our apartment unlivable for an undefined amount of time. It would seem that we have to move. Again. This will be my 4th move in 4 years. I have a love-hate-relationship with moving. It’s exciting (though tedious) to look for a new place and plan, but the actual moving part is hell. Then again, it’s great to get a new place – granted that the dust has barely settled in our current one… Hrmph.

(the long forgotten) 31 Day Blog Challenge – Day 25

To celebrate the actual 25th day of the month, here’s the 31 Day Blog Challenge’s day 25:

My 5 Favorite Blogs

As of late, I haven’t had much of a chance to follow blogs – especially English blogs – and it’s difficult to select just five from the vast amount that I browse through (mainly weekends), but here are the five that I immediately though of as awesome.

Essie Button
Because I think that if we met in real life, we could become great friends (despite our age difference). I especially enjoy Essie’s videos, because they capture her fun personality really well. I also like the fact that it’s not just exclusively a beauty blog!

Kendi Everyday
I go to this blog mostly for eyecandy – not that I’m oogling at the author (though she’s very pretty) (I’m digging a hole), but because I love the outfits I see on the blog. I love that she uses colors and prints too, not just all black or neutrals.

For Vanity’s Sake
I adore the beautiful and stylish pictures as well as the beautiful author (seriously, who looks that good?) and again, I’m drawn to the colors and freshness of this blog.

Powder & Puff
A lovely blog mostly about beauty, but also with a good dose of life and DYI along – all with a sweet, personal touch from Anne.

Flux and Flow
This blog is quite different from the others on my list because the author of the blog is a young woman who has been through a hell of a lot and still manages to keep positive, be enlightening and seriously give perspective to the rest of us. She’s an absolutely amazing person and the blog is definitely worth following!

everyday

And above is my treasures of the day – fresh (Spanish) strawberries and some bananas! Yum! Also, my lunch… buttermilk, wheat bread with some cheese & strawberries… How has your day been?

The Liebster Award x 2

Oh my oh my! I have had not one, but two wonderful Liebster awards handed my way so I think I better get to these! I was awarded by both the Budget Beauty and Seeking Subtle Glow who both have very interesting blogs of their own, so be sure to check them out!

liebsteraward

This award acknowledges bloggers with less than 200 followers, and allows us all to get to know each other and find new blogs.

These are the rules to participate:

  1. Acknowledge the blogger who nominated you.
  2. Answer the 11 questions your nominator asked.
  3. Nominate 10 bloggers with less than 200 followers that you love.
  4. Let the bloggers know that you have nominated them.
  5. Post 11 questions for them to answer.

Because I was nominated by two bloggers, there are 22 questions for me to answer:

From Budget Beauty:

1. Favorite brand for lipstick/gloss?
I had to think about this one for a moment, but honestly I can’t really say that I’m particularly brand-oriented. My current favorite lipstick is that Clinique one I’ve mentioned several times – which is unfortunate, because damn it, I don’t want to be supporting Clinique! It’s just such a perfect everyday color!

2. Show us your most used eyeshadow/eyeshadow palette.
I’m guessing this is in reference to which I’m using the most these days, so I would have to say it’s still my MUA Makeup Academy’s Pretty Edgy Palette:

MUA Pretty Edgy palette

MUA Pretty Edgy palette

3. Matte or dewy foundation finish?
I love a dewy look, but since I get oily easily throughout the day, I tend to at least try to go for a more matte look…

4. When did you start wearing makeup?
I think I wore like translucent eyebrow gel when I was about 13 and possibly some lipstick or gloss, but I didn’t really start doing makeup until I was around 16 I think? I don’t even remember. I’m so old.

5. What inspires your makeup looks?
I sometimes take inspiration from pictures and makeup looks in magazines, sometimes looks I see on blogs, but if I’m honest, my daily makeup is usually just whatever comes to my mind in the morning. I stick to pretty neutral looks so it rarely shows much creativity. I think I would have much more elaborate and interesting looks on a daily basis if I wasn’t stuck behind eyeglasses!

6. Drugstore or high end makeup?
Drugstore. Didn’t even have to think about it. I have tried very few high end products to begin with so I guess I can’t say much about them, but since I keep finding pieces I love for the fraction of the price of the high end stuff, why bother? I’ll rather spend my money on something else.

7. What products are on your vanity/makeup table/bathroom counter right now?
Oh my dear lord. This would like… consist of every cosmetic product I own and that’s a list so vast that I don’t even want to go there! But, on a daily basis I use very few things really. I could say what I don’t have and that would be… any form of tanning sprays/lotions, fake nails, fake lashes, gel polishes… Hrmm. Yeah.

8. It’s midnight and you’re super hungry. What do you grab for a snack?
I would tell myself to stfu and go back to sleep, honestly. On weekdays I aim (and often succeed) to be in bed well before midnight and this tends to extend to weekends too these days because my job is currently quite hectic and draining and I loooove sleeping! I’ve never been one to eat at night anyways, but I would likely have a glass of water.

9. Nude or red lip?
Red lips win every time. I can’t even figure out what would be a nude lip for me!

10. If you could only wear one makeup product tomorrow, what would you choose?
Tough one. I would have to go with that lipstick. It could double as a blush and I certainly need blush…

11. Tell us three things that you love about yourself.
You’re asking a Finn to list off three things she loves about herself? Brave! Well. What do I love about myself? I love the fact that I can logic my way through pretty much any situation. I love my imagination. I love the fact that I have grown up – at least a bit. Do these count?

Questions by Seeking Subtle Glow:

1. Why did you start your blog?
I wanted to start blogging in English because I felt like there could be something that the international community could offer me / teach me that I wasn’t getting from the Finnish community – and boy have I been right! I also wanted to share my opinions on products… but most of all, I originally started my blog, any blog, as an outlet, as a way to document my life, granted that this one has turned out to be far more of a beauty blog than I originally intended!
2. What is the first thing you do when you get up in the morning?
If you don’t count me turning off my alarm and I’m being brutally honest? I go pee. Then, I drink a glass of water and take my vitamins and proceed to get ready for the day.
3. Glossy or matte lips?
Can I have option C? I like a bit of sheen. If I had to choose though, right now, I would choose matte.
4. Jelly or jam?
Jam! It’s just more real.
5. Have you ever had bangs?
Weeeeell… I’ve had bangs for 10 years in a row now. I can’t seem to get rid of them!
6. What beauty product can you not live without?
Just one item? Eek! Lip balm?
7. What is you favorite kind of hat?
A sombrero. No, I kid, I kid. Probably a beanie. A warm, wintery-kind of beanie. I have a good head for hats, really. Is beanie really a hat? If not, I say stetson.

8. Do you have any pets?
I have a wonderful little poodle, Milo, who is 12 years old and 8 kilos heavy. I’ve had him since he was 8 weeks old. I wish to have more pets in the future!
9. What is your favorite piece of clothing you own?
Hah, realistically, I would have to say it’s my black, 3/4 length, cotton harem pants. That sounds so gross, and it kind of is, but they’re the most comfortable damn thing I own. And they’re not that harem-y, just a hint… And no, hopefully you will never see a picture!
10. What is your goal for you blog?
I’m not sure if I have a particular goal. I do this for fun, for the want to share things with people. I’m taking this blog where it will take me!
11. What is one thing your readers should know about you?
I naturally speak English with a very clear, American accent, though when I first met my husband, I spoke perfect British newscaster English. He found it hilarious, but it was what we were taught in school!
My nominees:
I  realized I have no idea how many readers most these blogs have and I’m still quite new to this English-writing blogging community, so I don’t know a huuuge amount of blogs, but here are my nominees!
  1. Pretty Little Grub
  2. All the small stuff and things
  3. Tangerine Latte

31 Day Blog Challenge – Day 24

My favorite childhood book

viisipientahevostaThis is such a tough one because I loved to read as a child! I was also read to a lot, before I could read myself (and after). Mom had signed up for some kind of a children’s book club when I was little and I must’ve had hundreds of small story books through that. One book really stands out though, out of that collection. It was called Viisi Pientä Hevosta (Five Small Horses) and it was a story of the lives of five little horses who started their adventure in this world together, ended up all going to their separate ways and then being reunited again beyond the rainbow bridge on the eternally green fields of poetry. As I child I thought it was a beautiful story of my favorite animals, with gorgeous illustration but somehow it was also quite sad and I couldn’t pin point as to why. Now, that I could and ended up reading the last poem over again, I admit, I cried. This blog here features some beautiful pictures from the book (which is in Finnish).

Other than that, I loved reading about facts. One of my favorite books explained the birth of the Universe, illustrated all of the planets, told me about how stars are born and then went down to Earth to see how the tectonic plates move, how oceans flow and so on. Light reading for a 6-8-year-old, right? I also treasured my book that went through all of the world’s horse breeds (I believe it had like 300?) as well as the evolution of horse and horse’s many purposes. I still remember that book vividly. I have a mild photographic memory, so I tend to remember images and texts associated with them really well for many many years. I also always remember everything I’ve heard really well.

31 Day Blog Challenge – Days 22 & 23

Day 22 – The best thing to happen this year

I’m assuming that this means the best thing so far. It hasn’t been a very spectacular year, but it has gone well enough so far. I’d probably say the best thing has been getting a raise, which was desperately needed since my husband’s temporary work contract came to an end (he was filling in for someone on a maternity leave). The year is still young however, I hope for many good things – there’s certainly room for some!

Day 23 – My dream job

I’m not sure I have a very specific, particular dream job. I’ve just always wanted a job where I have some creative freedom, at least at times. I have many dream jobs. I wouldn’t mind doing some form of writing for a living. Blogging or writing for a magazine. There has also been a time when I dreamt of becoming a photographer. I love creative and free-flowing things and honestly, sometimes it’s hard to spend a day staring at excel sheets. Thankfully, my current job does allow a good deal of independent thinking and also some creative freedom at times.

One dream of mine has also been to work in a horse-related job. I could see myself working with the horses themselves more easily than with people, so it’s very unlikely I would be a riding instructor or trainer. I don’t mind a physical job, such as cleaning the stables or grooming the horses, it’s good excersize and very satisfying as you can instantly see the results of your work.

31 Day Blog Challenge – Day 21

My 10 favorite foods

This is actually really hard! I can’t place foods in a certain order and I’m not sure if these should be actual dishes or just food items… Perhaps I’ll use both!

  • Pizza (I’m being honest here.)
  • Fresh (homemade) bread. (come on over, carbs!)
  • Blueberries (Fresh!)
  • Smoothies (especially mango-banana-pineapple-coconut)
  • Grilled salmon & boiled potatoes with some dill (somehow summery & delicious)
  • Waffles (well come on now.)
  • Orange chicken with rice (my dad made really great chicken in orange sauce with porridg-y rice…)
  • Feta salad (feta cheese, greens of choice, cucumber, red peppers, avocado, cherry tomatoes & a garlic or vinegar dressing – yum!)
  • Breakfast (can I just say breakfast?) Okay fine, my dream breakfast: Earl Grey tea, croissants, plenty of fruits to choose from & a cup of natural yogurt… perhaps scrambled eggs.
  • Chocolate (yep.)

Here’s what I use for my favorite homemade pizza base:

1,5 dl of warm water
2 ts of dry yeast
4 dl of wheat flour (give or take some to achieve desired consistency)
a pinch of salt
2-3 tbs of olive oil (or other such oil)

Mix the yeast into the warm water and then add the rest of the incredients. Mix well and throw it on the table top for some rolling pin action. After the desired thickness has been achieved, top the base with your favorite toppings and shove it into 225 degrees (celcius) for about 15 minutes. Deeeelicious! (ps. This recipe makes approximately 1 large pizza – ideal for sharing!)
